With the beauty of the fall season in full display throughout Niagara, you won’t want to miss taking a scenic drive through some of the most beautiful places in the region. From Niagara-on-the-Lake to the Niagara River Parkway, we are fortunate to have such a spectacular show of colour right in our own backyard.

One of the best driving routes to see the leaves in their glory is along the Niagara River Parkway. The parkway spans 55k from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake and follows the Niagara River. Along the way, you’ll find restaurants, museums and historical sites that can add to an already beautiful drive. Many tourists travel from across the world to see the vibrant display of tree colour along the river and we have it right at our doorstep!

And if you’re looking to take a break along the way, Dufferin Islands is a great spot to stretch your legs. This nature park contains 10 acres of walking trails that take you to little islands that are perfect for an afternoon picnic. Many types of wildlife live in this area making it an ideal place for birdwatching.

Another beautiful drive is to travel from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Port Dalhousie. A 25-minute drive, this route follows along Lake Ontario where you’ll pass countryside fruit farms and impressive winery estates. You’ll be able to take in the view of the Toronto skyline and explore the rich history that the quaint village of Niagara-on-the-Lake has to offer.

Perhaps the best part of this scenic trip is the fun you’ll have when taking a ride on Port Dalhousie’s famous antique carousel in Lakeside Park. Built in 1905, the carousel has been entertaining children and adults alike for many years. And at only 5¢ a ride in the summer, it’s the cheapest fun you’ll find!

One last gem we want to recommend is a scenic drive to the Beamsville Bench along the Niagara escarpment. The “Bench” is an area known for its interesting topography that resembles the shape of a bench. Due to its higher elevation, the landscape is protected from harsh weather elements, making it an abundant area for picturesque vineyards, streams and wineries. The area offers exceptional views of the rich reds of maple trees, and the golden hues of poplars and birches.
